When did you start making art? Tell us a little about your background.

My mother is an artist and my father a writer so they have always been encouraging of my creative energy. I started taking photos when I was about four years old. I lived on a farm and would run around taking polaroids of our animals and land and hang them around our home. Once I started collage I decided to dedicate my studies to the arts, photography in particular, and have grown from there. I have taken an interest in the body and it’s relationship with art and the gaze and have made that the main focus of my images.

What are the themes that you explore within your work?

I explore the themes of body. I am thinking about sexuality, vulnerability, Intimacy, trauma, touch, and gender. I grew up as a dancer and found that gave me a very special relationship to the body. Mine and others. I love to explore the relationships I create with my subjects, and how my presence as the photographer and as the gaze you see through effects my photographs. I see my photographs as being from my specific perspective.

Tell us about your art making process.

Whenever I have an idea I jot it down in my notebook or on my phone and after some time I look through all my thoughts and create from that. These past few years I have started making the clothing and props for my shoots so recently my process has started with creating the clothing and going from there. My next series I am working on is a series of robes my subjects will he wearing. I am thinking about the lounging bodies in art.

What do you think it means to be an artist today that identifies with the vast LGBTQIA community?

I think it means no limits. A space in which you can explore and experiment and create without any limitations. It’s the time for LGBTQIA communities point of views to be on display, and for these artists stories and creations to be shown and to be discussed further.
